My co-worker and I house our school counseling resources on this website. We compile links, books, websites and articles to teach in the classroom and share with teachers, parents, and other student advocates.
One of my recent and all time favorite picture book finds! It illustrates acceptance of others to the core. This book will empower any child with the idea that we are who we are and to be true to yourself. It also helps teachers lead discussions about being an ALLY to others.
I haven't found a student who doesn't stop what they are doing to watch this flashmob video to Bruno Mars' "Just the Way you Are." It is well done and has an uplifting message. The students are all wearing shirts that say "acceptance."
This a follow up to the 'Blind Skateboarder' Video. It is a five minute video where a blind skateboarder is interviewed by Tony Hawk. Boys are an especially great audience for this discussion around abilities, assumptions, and personal strength.
This is a super cool three minute video about the abilities of a blind skateboarder. I use it to foster a discussion about our own talents and highlight the assumptions we make about others' abilities.
A high school senior created this amazing movie for her end of the year project. The students are asked thoughtful questions and share their view of the world. I have found this video to be appropriate for 3rd and 4th graders.
