The value of this resource is that I can pick and choose from the wide variety of support materials included. In particular, I like to use the "Code the Text" and "Drawing Connections" lessons. The list of activities that can be used with the strategy is also incredibly helpful.
I show this very short video at the beginning of my making connections unit, as a way to introduce the strategy. The video packs a lot of information in a short span of time, which makes it a great teaching tool.
I appreciate how concise this article is, as the author discusses how making connections and activating schema are important reading comprehension strategies. The list of questions for each type of connection is very helpful to use when modeling for students how to use the strategy.
I love that this is an entire unit on making connections! I have found it important to take time with teaching students this strategy. The reproducibles included with each lesson are fabulous and, once introduced, can be used throughout the school year to reinforce the strategy.
