Secondary Students as Expert Inference Aces

Research indicates that thoughtful and proficient readers use multiple metacognitive strategies; meaning that they think about their own thinking during reading. This is important because when the meaning of a text is unclear or not understood, they have a variety of strategies to solve comprehension problems or deepen their understanding of a text. Using prior knowledge and textual information to draw conclusions, make critical judgments, and form inferences is one of those skills.
